5-10-12

Students worked on Solar System Model project. Some suggestions: print your brochure to see how it feels and looks; double check instructions and requirements; think about HOW you are going to make your model. If you wait until the last moment it will look that way!

5-9-12

Students started notes (Smartboard Notes 5-9-12) on galaxies and worked on the Milky Way model. We also listened to the Galaxy Song.

5-8-12

Time to work on Solar System Model project (see multiple blog posts from 4-17-12 on). Quiz on the four Jovian planets.

5-7-12

Saturday was the “super” Full Moon as the Moon was at perigee and appeared about 10% larger than normal. We discussed (with diagrams) how this worked and how the annular solar eclipse of May 20-21 was related. The Moon will be at apogee when syzygy occurs and the Moon will be too small to completely cover the Sun. We will miss the eclipse as the Sun will have set. Those in the western US will get a great sunset view of it.

In related news the solar eclipse glasses were ordered and should arrive in time for the Transit of Venus on June 5, 2012. A local reporter picked up on a tweet about this and wrote a nice piece about graduation night and this once in a lifetime event!

5-4-12
