Students continue to work on Lunar Motion and Phases project (Smartboard notes 3-21-11). Today’s weather (rain) meant we were not able to take the measurements for the Eratosthenes Project; however, in anticipation of bad weather some data was obtained on 3-19-11. We will discuss this and the calculations on Wednesday. Moon Phase homework is due 3-23-11 (see 3-18-11 for copies).
Dropped some plans for today to focus on 8.9 magnitude earthquake that struck around 1 am our time off the coast of Japan. Devastating tsunami was generated, 1000s killed, and a number of Japan’s nuclear power plants in trouble. (video footage). Amazing before and after photos (hover over photos).
Wrapped up sky domes and began notes on earth motions and lunar motions. Watched a Jay Leno piece on John Glenn’s return to space. Students were able to get xcredit for their constellation flashcards. There will be some questions on the test about a star’s spectra.
