Extra day in the computer lab to finish solar and lunar eclipse activities with Stellarium, comment on the class blog, and work on the Google Doc to review for the Moon Test tomorrow.

4-8-11

Students finish up Stellarium activity with solar eclipses and today go looking for a lunar eclipse in this century (Lunar Eclipse Activity). Class then works on a Google doc for the Moon Test on Tues 4-12-11. Don’t forget to comment on one of the class blogs for this past week by Sunday.

4-7-11

Class was held in the computer lab. Lunar Eclipse diagrams and details were discussed. Students went to the NASA Eclipse Website and found a solar eclipse sometime in this century and then “found” it on Stellarium. Using this Solar Eclipse Stellarium Activity (may need to print it out) fill in the data and sketch the diagrams for your eclipse.

4-6-11

Students went outside to view the sun using solar eclipse glasses. Completion of  Smartboard Notes 4-6-11 Solar Eclipses. We discussed total, partial, and annular eclipses. What is the cause of an annular eclipse? Moon test on Tues 4-12-11.

Class held in planetarium today. Notes on solar and lunar eclipses. Note diagrams below of geometry of Earth-Moon-Sun system and animation of next total solar eclipse in November 2012. Note the umbra and penumbra shadows. What is syzygy? We will be using the NASA Eclipse website in the computer lab Thur and Fri.
