By now, all the applications and permission slips have been signed. The buses are reserved and Mr. McFadden, Mr. Noel, and Mrs. Green are getting excited about the YSMS students competing at the county level. Students should be getting their projects back out and making any last minute adjustments and fine tuning. The students are required to be at the Penn State York Campus gymnasium Saturday March 5th for project setup. If the student can not make it to Penn State Saturday morning, they must send their project with someone they trust to set it up for them.
Stay tuned – more information coming soo.

Congratulations to all 2011 YSMS Science Fair participants!!! The students have finished their work, the judging and grading has been completed, and the open house is scheduled for Tuesday 2/8 during parent/teacher conferences. Those students that are moving on to Penn State in early March should take their boards home ASAP and put them in a VERY safe place. The judging took place Friday and the results are posted on the Moodle. All the first place projects will now move on the York County Science and Engineering Fair held in early March at the Penn State York campus. All forms are due by Wednesday 2/2. All the students should be proud of their projects. If you have any questions about the projects or their judging, please email your son/daughter’s science teacher.

Believe it or not, science fair work is drawing to a close. ALL science fair components (board, 3-ring binder, and journal) are due Wednesday January 27th. The students’ work will be graded by their science teacher and judged by individuals not directly connected to their work. The results of the judging will determine whether or not the project moves on to the York County Science and Engineering Fair held at Penn State York in early March. Pregrades by the science teachers for the board have been available by appointment since January 15th so hopefully your son/daughter has taken advantage of that opportunity. The board is the culmination of all the students’ hard work so both Mr. McFadden and Mr. Noel have emphasized attention to detail and patience when putting the board together.
We would like to thank you for all your patience and diligence with the science fair. We believe the science fair creates a real world opportunity for students to identify a problem, research the components of the problem, devise a method to test a solution to the problem, and present their results in a manner that allows each student to display his/her accomplishments. We look forward to seeing all their work on Wednesday.

Hard to believe we are getting close to the end of the science fair project already. The students will be submitting their analysis and conclusion pieces Friday January 7th. The project abstract is due January 12th. The science fair display boards are in and we are asking that the boards be paid for and taken home as soon as possible. Once the boards are home, they should be placed in a safe location. Directions on how to complete the board are forthcoming and your son/daughter should not do anything to the board prior to that time.
Please contact Mr. Noel or Mr. McFadden with any questions or concerns. The York Suburban Middle School Science Fair occurs Friday January 28th.

By now your son/daughter should have submitted their data and graphs. If not, please ask you aspiring young scientist where they are in the process and when they plan to submit their final work. The science fair timeline was set up with a great deal of thought towards having most of the more complicated parts of the project completed before the holiday break.
When we return, the students will be putting together the final pieces of the project, including their science fair board. The final science fair project (board, book, and journal) are due Wednesday January 26 and the science fair judging will be held Friday January 28. Please email Mr. Noel or Mr. McFadden with any questions.

It is crunch time!! The students should be well on their way to collecting their data by now. They should be taking pictures along the way, completing their data tables, and making entries into their science fair journals. This is a very critical phase of their work – their data represents all their hard work to this point.
Unless previous arrangements have been made with their science teacher, all data should be brought to class on Tuesday December 14th.
